Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.
Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?
As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.
One Tiny Lie is the companion novel to K. A Tuckers’ novel Ten Tiny Breaths which I really enjoyed, so I was excited to read Kacey’s sister Livie’s story. Set off on a new adventure of her own in the crazy unpredictable world of college Livie has to deal with who she really is and not what she thought herself to be as well as crazy, uncontrollable emotions to a guy she never thought she could romantically connect with.
There was drama both psychologically and romantically with Livie dealing with the tragedies of her past while making a way for her future. Trying to embrace life and dealing with hot playboy Ashton. I really enjoyed Ashton, he brought the action and hotness to the story. From Ashton and Livie’s first meeting, which was HOT! I knew he was going to take Livie on a wild ride and he didn’t disappoint! I wasn’t sure I was going to connect with Livie at first with her trying to be so perfect at everything but as the story progressed I realized it was all a façade and that she had just as much drama and baggage as everyone. I enjoyed reading about her growth, finding what she wanted out of life and she began to grow on me.
The romance between Ashton and Livie was hot and heavy from the beginning and I loved it! I liked how Ashton and Livie challenged each other and built a bond to help each other with the skeletons in their closets. Now I’ve read my fair share of love triangles, I know it sometimes add additional drama to the story but most of the time I want to ignore one of the characters and just focus on the couple with the most chemistry which in this case with Ashton and Livie. At times it annoyed me with Livie’s back-and-forth between Ashton and his best friend Connor when it was clear who she really wanted. It was to the point were I was like be with him already! But I know there are a lot of complications in the battlefield of love.
Overall I enjoyed Livie’s journey in One Tiny Lie the drama was engaging and the romance was hot. I say this was a yummy read and I look forward to reading more from K. A. Tucker.
