Impressions
With every story of the Lords of the Underworld I keep getting drawn deeper and deeper in to their complex world filled with action and passion. The Darkest Surrender led me on a wild ride with the romance of Strider (keeper of Victory) and Kaia the uncontrollable harpy.Falling in love is a crazy ride in itself but falling in love with a man who literary has to win at everything or experience untold pain made things wilder.
From the first page I was drawn into Striders and Kaia’s story. They were such strong unique characters with interesting pasts that I enjoyed getting to know them as individuals as well as a couple. I loved watching their romantic relationship unfold amongst the chaos of the battle going on between men and the gods.
Even though this is primarily a love story and Kaia and Strider have been featured in past stories, their romance was fresh and exciting and had me flipping pages to see what would happen next.
The plot was fast paced and electrifying, keeping me on my toes and guessing at all times. The world Gena Showalter created was very detailed and fleshed out. A lot of past characters were featured within the story but instead of distracting from the main plot they added depth to the story that made it more intense and believable.
The sexual intimacy between Strider and Kaia was an inferno that I loved watch go up in flames every time they were together. This time it was the woman doing the chasing and I enjoyed how it all played out between them. They had chemistry that felt authentic.
I appreciated how even though there were serious issues being addressed within the story there was a lot of humor mixed in as well which gave the story a nice balance.
I really enjoyed Kaia’s character; she knew what she wanted and went after it no matter what obstacles came her way. I enjoyed watching her fight for her own happiness. Strider was such a strong capable man and l enjoyed how he handled his demon. Though it took him a while to realize what he wanted, when he got his act together I felt he made a great match for Kaia.
Overall
Gena Showalter always seems to know how to create amazing stories filled with unforgettable plots and characters and I wasn’t at all disappointed with The Darkest Surrender. I really loved the action, romance, and suspense. My verdict? Adult romance readers should go out and buy a copy. It’s worth it.
