They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.
Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.
First Impressions
Eternal Rider was a must read for me. The synopsis alone was such a compelling concept that I had to see how the story played out.
What Worked
The lore of the four horsemen of the apocalypse finding love while fighting to stop their seals from breaking, really grabbed my attention. I mean who wouldn’t find that interesting? The history and the fantasy were greatly woven to make a compelling story.
The action was a world wind, fast and fierce and had me on the edge of my seat turning the pages to read more.
Would Ares be able to stop his seal from breaking while keeping his growing feelings for Cara under control? Could a demon and one of the horsemen of the apocalypse even fall in love? These questions and more was cleverly laid out and explained throughout the story so that even though I knew Ares and Cara would end up together, the mystery and intrigue was in how’s and why’s.
The romance between Ares and Cara was sizzling. From when they first met to the building of their relationship so did their love. I was kind of iffy about the romance element of the story, since it is about the horsemen who is suppose to bring about the end of the world and who would find the romance in that? But Ms. Ione did a great job crafting a believable and exciting romance between two people who found themselves in outrageous circumstances while falling in love.
Characters
Cara: Not the sparky in your face character, she had her damsel in distress moments but who could blame her? She did find her voice and spark in the end which led her to be a cool character.
Ares: From the beginning he fascinated me. I wanted to know his story and how he came to be the person that he was. In finding that out I enjoyed him even more. He had edge and vulnerabilities that make me feel for his character.
Overall
Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione took me on a crazed emotional roller-coaster ride that I greatly enjoyed. Ms. Ione crafted a wildly imaginative world filled with danger and compelling characters that I couldn’t help but be sucked in. This is the start of the series and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
