Author Interview: Nalini Singh
Intense, emotional, playful, dangerous.
What influenced you to write about Psy/Changelings?
I love the idea of being able to shift form, to turn into a powerful creature such as a
leopard or a wolf. I’ve also always had an interest in psychic abilities like telepathy and
telekinesis, and one day I wondered what if those abilities weren’t a gift? What if they drove you mad? Something clicked, I began writing, and the story just poured out, the Psy and the changelings both exploding onto the page.

In the beginning, what or who spoke to your first? The story or the characters?
As I mentioned above, I had a very strong idea or concept for the series, after which my
characters spoke to me, showed me the world.

Was there any scene or part in Kiss of Snow that was difficult to write? And if so how
did you get through writing it?
did you get through writing it?
Every scene has its own challenges. If an issue comes up, I tend to keep on writing, work things out on the page.
I feel that names hold meaning and importance to characters. How do you come up
with or decided on the names for your characters? Do they hold meaning?
with or decided on the names for your characters? Do they hold meaning?
It’s very instinctive – a name will simply feel right. Until it does, I’ve been known to write with a placeholder rather than the wrong name.
Who was the easiest & hardest character for you to create?
As with scenes, each and every character provides different challenges. There’s no way I could choose!
Did you do any unique research for Kiss of Snow?
I had to research a number of facts, including certain Latin words, geography in different parts of the world, and time differences between cities.
Since this is a long standing series, where do you see the Psy/Changeling series going?
Part of the joy of writing a long-running series is being able to see my characters grow and develop and change, and that will continue to happen with future books in the series. Plotwise, a number of significant events either take place in, or are alluded to, in Kiss of Snow. The ripples caused by these events are going to be widespread, driving the overarching storyline forward. There’s still so much to explore in this world!
