Hunter Wild is the youngest in a long line of elite vampire hunters, a legacy that is both a blessing and a curse at the secret Helios-Ra Academy, where she excels at just about everything. Thanks to her friendship with Kieran Black, Hunter receives a special invitation to attend the coronation of Helena Drake, and for the first time, she sees the difference between vampires that must be hunted and vampires that can become friends—or even more. When students at the academy fall victim to a mysterious illness, Hunter suspects they are under attack from within. She will need someone she can trust to help her save the future of Helios-Ra . . . help that shockingly comes in the form of Quinn Drake, a drop-dead gorgeous vampire. Who said senior year would be easy?
In the third book to the Drake Chronicles Alyxandra Harvey brings us back into the fantastical world of vampires and vampires hunters in the town of Violet Hill. Following the lives of the notorious immortal Drake family and the people connected to them as they fight to live amongst themselves in peace, which they quickly realize becomes harder and harder to achieve. In Out for Blood the focus turns to Quinn Drake, one of the seven older brothers to Solange and Logan who’ve we already met if you read the first two books in the series Hearts at Stake & Blood Feud. Quinn is the loud, charming, outgoing twin in the Drake clan and in this story he finds his match in the strong willed Hunter Wilde who’s human and is shockingly studying to be become a vampire hunter. Hunter comes from a long line of famous vampire hunter so it instantly brings tension and intrigue to the story. Making me wonder how Quinn and Hunter will be together when they come from different worlds, worlds that are at odds with each other. Besides the romance growing between them Hunter and Quinn team up to figure out the strange things that’s been happening to the students at Hunter the Helios-Ra academy. Soon they find that danger is closer than they thought and the vampire enemy Hel-Bar becomes a bigger threat then ever before.
Out for Blood was an intense story that I really enjoyed reading. The story was well paced with the amount of past information as well as the new, though things really didn’t start to pick up until the end. I liked the dual insight we get to see with Quinn and Hunter view points and how it all comes together in the end. Both of the characters are very strong willed and I enjoyed watching the romance between the two of them spark and ignite. Though the romance did happen a bit quickly it was still believable, no love at first sight, we’ve loved each other forever and ever. Added with the romance is the mystery, fighting and danger that takes up a forth of the story between the different factors of the vampires. There is the constant underlining tension woven within the story with the danger that the Drake family faces within themselves with the vampire politics and what the Hel-Bar brings within the town of Violet Hill. Alyxandra did a good job bringing the action and suspense to the story which really had me engrossed. Though the romance Quinn and Hunter was hot and intense I wanted to see even more of the romance between them. I felt that the story focused more on the action and suspense of their lives instead of the actual romance, which isn’t bad at all but I wanted more of the great romance between these two great characters. Overall the story was great and it left me wanting more with these interesting and engaging characters that Alyxandra Harvey created in the vast world of Violet Hill. I can’t wait to read more about the Drake family as each of them continue to find love. Readers, new and old, are in for an intensely wild ride into a creative, interesting world filled with action, romance and suspense.
